David Stone

Conductor & Musical Director

Mr. David Stone was appointed musical director and conductor of the Southlake Community Band in October of 1992. Under his direction, the Band has grown to its present size of over seventy active members and has achieved ever increasing levels of musical knowledge and expertise. Mr. Stone’s uncompromising focus on excellence has been directly responsible for the continuing improvement in the Band’s musical ability and level of performance.

Mr. Stone received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education in 1984 from the University of Iowa, where he performed on trumpet with the University’s symphonic band and orchestra. His musical expertise also led to his being seated as fourth trumpet chair in the award-winning Johnson County, Iowa Landmark Jazz band.

After graduation, Mr. Stone moved to Texas where he accepted a teaching appointment in the Dallas Independent School District. During his tenure, he started two beginning band programs at the middle school level, and was assistant band director at Madison High School.

In 1987, Mr. Stone was recruited by the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake, Texas, where he was appointed Director of Bands at Carroll Middle School. During his tenure, he has filled the additional positions of Director of Jazz Bands for the School District, and of Assistant Director of Bands for Carroll High School. Under his leadership and direction, the Middle School and Jazz Bands have won numerous district, regional and area awards.

Mr. Stone performs professionally with the Main Street Brass Quintet, and is principal trumpet with the Zion Lutheran Brass Ensemble. He is married to his high school sweetheart Michelle, and they have a lovely daughter Andrea. David is an avid golfer with a single digit handicap and is a computer enthusiast.
